Preguntas frecuentes
Acerca de nuestros mapas e impresiones
¡Depende!

About our globes
Even though the globes are based on our scientifically accurate maps, we were - as usual - aiming for a simple, clean, artistic look. This way we can also make sure that they will never get outdated, as it happens with other globes when a country, a mountain or river is renamed.
For handcrafted or hand-coated globes, the map, which is first divided into 12 segments, is glued on by hand by professional globemakers. The final coating is also applied by hand in many layers.
During machine production, a machine pulls a special foil with the map printed on it into a hemisphere shape. The vacuum-forming technique causes the map image to lose its brilliance and detail.
The hand-coated maps, on the other hand, captivate with brilliant colors and a highly refined resolution, just like HD television.
All our globes are equipped with an LED light bulb and can therefore be illuminated. A simple flip switch is used to turn the light on in the globe.
Here is a simple step-by-step guide on how to change the bulb in your COLUMBUS globe.
Step 1: Turn off and unplug the globe from the power outlet.
Step 2: Remove the globe sphere. To do this, lift the meridian at the north pole, push it slightly to the side and carefully (to avoid scratches) move the globe upwards and sideways with your free hand until the globe can be completely removed from the frame. Note: Due to the bulb socket in the globe, the globe cannot simply be moved sideways.
Step 3: Now the light bulb is exposed and can be unscrewed by hand. Change it to a fitting bulb of maximum 40 watts. We suggest you use modern LED bulbs, as they consume much less energy and are more sustainable than traditional light bulbs.
Step 4: To move the globe back to its original position, move the globe sideways over the light bulb as you did when removing it. Keep the meridian away from the surface of the globe so that no scratches occur.
Watch this video from the manufacturer to see how it is done.
Any light as long as it fits into the world globe socket should work fine. However, some of the higher wattage incandescent bulbs may run too hot for the acrylic sphere. We suggest you use modern LED bulbs in your globe, as they consume much less energy and are more sustainable than traditional light bulbs. If you have a question about a particular wattage and model, contact us here.
Columbus' main focus in the search for materials is not only on quality and high value, but of course on bringing the desired robustness. Therefore, our acrylic glass spheres are relatively robust and durable.
However, we do not provide any guarantee in the event of an unfortunate fall from a certain height. In case of damage, please contact us. We will gladly organize a replacement globe to sent you for a fee, so you do not have to purchase a new model.
Absolutely. Our partner, Columbus Globes have many different sizes available up to two meters in diameter.

Yes, you can order a globe sphere made out of mouth-blown crystal glass, created by passionate glassblowers in Germany. This traditional technique gives your globe a special value and feel, as Columbus remains the only company that still produces glass world globes this way.

No, and please don't try to do this, pins would damage the surface of the globe permanently that your warranty does not cover.

Our globes are made in collaboration with Columbus Globus, and shipped directly from their workshop in Germany. Orders are generally shipped within 1-3 working days. We always keep a few globes in stock and ready to be shipped, but in periods of high demand we might need to manufacture a new one for you. As these are premium quality, handmade items, this process generally takes around 2-4 days.
For more details see our Shipping Policy.
All our products are robustly packaged. Our unframed prints are hand rolled in protective tissue paper and then shipped in extra thick cardboard tubes. Acrylic and framed prints, as well as stretched canvas prints come in a rigid double-walled cardboard box.
The packaging standards have been refined many times, over many years and it is now extremely rare for breakages or damage to occur. On those rare occasions when incidents do happen we strive to ensure that a replacement is organised immediately and shipped back out on a priority service without any fuss.
We'll keep you updated and send you an email as soon as your package ships, along with your tracking number where you can monitor its journey.
Please note that we extend the option for untracked shipping as well. If you prefer to have your order tracked, remember to choose a tracked shipping method, like Express shipping.
All globes are sent with tracked shipping.
There can always be unexpected delays with shipments, especially in the holiday season. If you still haven't received your order after more than 21 days, check the tracking number you have received for your order, that will show the status and location of your order.
We ask for a photo of the damaged goods, and we'll then gladly send a free replacement.
We do not accept returns, but if you received the wrong item or if it arrives faulty or damaged, we will replace it.

And some more
Thanks to different dialects and language use, these definitions can be really tricky. Read our glossary to find help in talking about your maps in a more accurate, scientific way.
Grasshopper comes from Robert's childhood nickname, 'Szöcske', meaning 'grasshopper' in Hungarian.
Robert has a Master's in Geography and GIS (Geographic Information System(s)) indeed, but he started drawing maps for fun in elementary school.
We are a small family business without permanent headquarters, using a print on demand solution to sell our maps. This means we do not have any physical shops you can visit, but we are happy to hear from you. If you wanted to visit just to get to know us better, we suggest you subscribe to our newsletter or read our blog.
The word "Giclée" is French for "sprayed ink." Today, the term is used to describe a sophisticated inkjet printmaking process which creates the highest quality fine art reproductions. All our prints are manufactured in this way. Giclée printing offers extra-fine image resolution, helping retain a higher degree of detail from the original images.
A lot of research and development has gone into the various aspects and materials that make up a Giclée print. Current scientific lab reports suggested that our papers and Giclée printing process will produce a print that lasts between 100-200 years in optimal conditions. Please note any print located in direct sunlight is still likely to fade over time.
The meridian is the semi-circular or circular frame holding the world globe.
The world globes sit a 23.5 angle to mimic Earth's own tilt on its axis.
This is so nice to hear, thank you!
This is exactly why we decided to set up a Ko-fi page: to create a platform where people who appreciate our work can show their support in the form of a virtual cup of coffee. It's basically like a tip jar, without the pressure of buying anything :) Thank you for your support!
