Stretched Canvas

A finely textured artist-grade cotton substrate that consistently reproduces image detail with outstanding clarity. Both the 400gsm canvas material and the used printing method are perfect for our colourful maps.

The canvas print is stretched onto a custom wooden European knotless pine wooden frame, and hand finished by an experienced framing team to ensure that every corner fold is perfectly smooth and tight. Each canvas frame is milled with a curved profile; this minimises contact with the face of the canvas, preventing unsightly impression marks and surface cracking. Finger jointed canvas frames are used to create corner tension which helps to resist warping. Robert Szucs hält eine Rede auf der PINC-Konferenz in Florida, 2019

Ich bin Robert, ein GIS-Analyst/Digitalkartograf aus Ungarn, und dies ist die Geschichte, wie ich zufällig Künstler wurde.

Angefangen hat alles im Jahr 2014. Nach ein paar langweiligen Jobs in kleinen Kabinen in ganz England kam ich zu dem Schluss, dass ich meine Zeit besser verbringen könnte. Noch mehr Gewinn für multinationale Unternehmen und die Menschen auf der siebten Stufe der Leiter generieren, die ich noch nie getroffen hatte? Sichere Sache. Ich holte tief Luft und beschloss, meine Zeit und mein Geld stattdessen ehrenamtlich für NGOs einzusetzen, um meine Kartenerstellungsfähigkeiten zu verbessern. Im Grunde begann ich damit, geldsparende Aufenthalte in England mit zwei- bis sechsmonatigen Freiwilligeneinsätzen auf der ganzen Welt abzuwechseln.

Unter anderem habe ich für Archäologen auf der winzigen Karibikinsel St. Eustatius, mit Meeresbiologen in Alaska und in einem Orang-Utan-Schutzprogramm im indonesischen Borneo gearbeitet. Diese Reisen haben mich sowohl persönlich als auch beruflich wachsen lassen und gleichzeitig bei wichtigen Anliegen geholfen.

Mein nächstes großes Abenteuer war die Gründung von Grasshopper Geography, die eigentlich aus einigen Hobbyprojekten und Karten entstand, die ich online geteilt habe. Nachdem die guten Leute im Internet anfingen zu fragen, wo sie meine Arbeiten kaufen könnten – und sie anscheinend wirklich mochten –, war ich nicht nur überrascht und überwältigt, ich wusste auch, dass dies die Chance sein könnte, von meiner Leidenschaft zu leben: dem Machen künstlerische Karten, die jeder genießen kann. So hier sind wir!

Ende 2020 wurde Eszter, meine Lebenspartnerin, auch meine Geschäftspartnerin. Seitdem arbeiten wir beide Vollzeit daran, Ihnen frische, farbenfrohe, aufschlussreiche und wissenschaftlich korrekte Karten in höchstmöglicher Qualität zu liefern. Auch wenn es schon lange her ist, hoffe ich sehr, dass ich (oder noch besser: wir) in nicht allzu ferner Zukunft wieder ehrenamtlich für neue NGOs auf der ganzen Welt arbeiten kann.
