Environmental Protection with the Help of Street Art - Part 5
Urban metamorphosis: a highly successful project by a Hungarian NGO
Hopefully, the importance of bees and other pollinators in nature is not news to anyone these days. Bees, bumblebees, butterflies, and small flies help maintain ecological balance and biodiversity. Without these important insects, the crops we consume and most wild plants, which are essential for all kinds of animals on the planet, would disappear. The decline in the number of pollinators is an issue we all need to be aware of.
In June, they painted their vast mural, which was the last stage of Mondolo's 2021 project, "Operation Pollinator," that helped raise awareness of the problem. Starting in January, they created ten urban wildflower meadows and erected bee hotels throughout the town to provide pollinators with food and shelter. Informational signs with QR codes provide additional guidance at these locations. With Syngenta's help, they distributed packets of wildflower seeds to the public and plan to hold more campaigns like this one in the future.

Creating your own wildflower garden or insect hotel is a small yet significant step in saving the bees — and ourselves. Even a flower pot on your balcony helps! We have a big crate full of sweet alyssum on our balcony that has proven to be a hit among bumblebees. :)
