In 2023 we had the chance to move above the Arctic Circle in Norway. With breathtaking scenery, long winters of deep snow, endless starry nights and summers of midnight sun, this place begs to be photographed.
However, the most amazing wonders of all is the aurora borealis or the northern lights. This atmospheric phenomenon has been a beloved subject for artists for thousands of years. It is a great challenge to photograph the dancing lights for sure, but a challenge I was ready to accept.
I hope you will enjoy this ever growing gallery of green and purple skies as much as I do.

Even though I've lived in 8 countries and on 4 continents and was always planning to try my hands at photography, I never had a camera of my own. I invested in my first camera when I moved to Norway in 2023, and I'm very happy that I made the jump.
On one of the very first nights I visited the Arctic Salmon Center in Hamarøy where they keep more than a million salmon. I instantly fell in love with the otherworldly look of those brightly shining UFOs that are the top of the fish pens in Vestfjorden. In the coming months I spent more than a hundred hours here alone, in the middle of the night. I hiked the forest in deep snow with a tripod on my shoulder, climbed hills and abandoned piers and tried many angles until I found my favourite ones. I spent many nights in this challenging but magnificent winter wonderland, and I only stopped going out to the Salmon Center when there was no darkness any more.
I hope you'll share in my fascination for this unlikely and unexpected subject. As a first photo project, I'm very happy with the results.

Ever since I was a little child, it was my dream to work with whales. A few years after getting my Masters degree in GIS, I started sending emails to NGOs who worked with marine mammals, offering my services for free. In 2015 I finally got my chance to work with Alaska Whale Foundation. I spent two field seasons in Southeast Alaska, working on boats, handling hydrophones, and making lots of maps about humpback whale distribution, feeding habits and many other topics.
In this gallery you'll find a few of my favourite shots from my summers in Alaska. Mostly of whales. <3
